Colour Selection - Changes

Colour selection - 22 March : Changes

After the colour selection document was signed on the 22 March 2017, Maria, our client liaison officer from Chelbrooke gave us over the weekend to consider the selections we made.  The difficulty with making changes after the "Colour Selection" session is that we don't have the colour consultant to help us anymore. We only have one free session with the colour consultant. In addition, it is not just change one thing, we have to consider the rest of selections before making any changes.

The items that we were not totally happy with are:

1.  Roof colour.  I thought the "Monument" colour was too dark for roof considering energy saving for cooling the house down.  Changed to "Basalt" which is a ligher grey than "Monument".  Also decided to leave window frame as "Monument" to avoid extra change.  In reality, we don't really know how much that upgrade cost would be.

2. Pier brick.  We went to Austral Bricks on the weekend to have a look their showroom since the  picture of "Metallix nickel" on the brochure looked very different from the sample showed to us at colour selection.  And it is true, they are different!  The actual brick is the same one we have seen.  The brochure has the old colour on it.  We were very surprised when the lady at the showroom brought out a cute parcel of sample bricks for us to take home.

There are two bricks in each packet.  We took three sample packets in the Metallix range: Bronze, Nickle and Emery.  Each brick had its own character. Bronze and Nickle are quite similar, Emery is a bit reddish with a leather looking texture.

Bronze Vs Nickel

The brick on the right is Bronze and the brick on the left is Nickel.  The top colour is the house wall colour: "Taubmans Smokehaze"; bottom left is the roof colour: "Basalt", Bottom middle is the Garage door: "Timber look range Caoba"; bottom right is window frame colour: "Monument".  Take into consideration front door colour of "Walnut" and two "Walnut" timber posts on top of the other front rendered pier, we decided on Bronze which also has a more of shine to it.

3.  Kitchen bench top.  The stone we chose for kitchen was "Ocean Form" in Standard range.  It has small particles in the surface which looked quite similar to our floor tiles.  We didn't have a quote to upgrade to a Deluxe range stone since we thought this was included in our quote.  We did get a quote to upgrade to a Super Natural range stone, it will incur an extra cost of $5,439.  To upgrade to the Super Natural Ultra range, it will incur an extra cost of $12,480.  After another visit to The Build & Design Centre, we decided on "Organic White" in the Deluxe range.  We also like the "White Attica" and "Bianco Drift" in Super Natural range and the "Statuario Nuvo" in Super Natural Ultra range.

4. Downstairs bathroom stone top.  The floor tile, wall tiles are quite plain in downstairs bathroom and the "Ocean Form" stone top is quite light colour as well.  The whole room would be quite boring.  We only realised this when we were reviewing the colour selection document. In addition, we had the stone top of "Piatra Grey" in Super Natural range decided on when we chose our tiles.  We  decided to change the stone top from "Oceam Form" to "Piatra Grey" for the downstairs bathroom.

5. Laundry.  The change from "Oceam Form" to "Piatra Grey" for the downstairs bathroom causes a problem for the bench top in laundry.  The original bench top: Laminex "Pure Mineralstone" was chosen to match the "Ocean form" look.  In order to see the Laminex range, we visited the "Kitchen by Kathie".  The closest we can match to "Piatra Grey" is " Roman Marble" in Diamondgloss Finish.  Not sure how much extra cost would be for the Diamondgloss Finish and we also don't know how much extra cost to put stone bench in it.  At the moment, we will just go with the Laminex one.

6. Stairs.

When we considered the colour of stairs, we were mainly thinking of the upstairs Spotted Gum timber floor colour.  Didn't take consideration of the downstairs colour scheme.  The downstairs colour scheme is warm grey, the clear stain colour of Victorian Ash is lighter with a yellow tone.  We think the dark colour called 'Cochranes Black' will fit better.  Below is a picture from S&A Stairs (stairs supplier) of a Victorian Ash timber stairs with a dark similar stain.
