Colour Selection - catch up post

Colour selection - 22 March : catch up post

The colour scheme was decided as Warm Grey, called Taupe.
The paints are from Taubmans, cabinetry from Laminex, windows from Bradnams and bench tops are Caesarstone.

It's very hard to decide on colour. The variations to a colour caused by different lighting make it even harder to choose. Probably best not to even worry about it but with the help of Judi the selections are:

Roof: decided on metal over tile due to low maintenance advantage
Based on the window frame colour: "Monument" , the roof colour is also decided as "Monument".  With the window frame colour, the lighter grey "Basalt" will incur extra charge, no consideration was given to this colour and went straight to "Monument" which is a darker grey.

The colour of house is the Taubmans colour: Smokehaze;
Newport cladding: Movie Star which is lighter than the Smokehaze

Facade: The left pier would be rendered and colour: Mortar.  The two posts has the colour of: Walnut.  The right pier will be brick pole.  The brick is Austral Brick: Metallix range product "Nickel" with Off White mortar.
Metallix Range Nickel

Walls and ceiling are same colour of: Whisper White since we have square set cornice - for the ease of the painter.

Trims: White illusion
Eaves and alfresco ceiling: White house

The front door colour: Walnut.  There doesn't seem have any better choice.

Garage door: Timber look range "Caoba" which will match the front door and posts.

Top down, left to right:
Roof, external house colour; cladding colour; external tile; left front pier; Garage door; Window colour; internal floor tile.

Left to right:

Carpet for downstairs Living room, Bed 4 and update stairs kids bedroom
Window frame clolor
Wall colour
Internal floor tile

The hardest two things to decide is the kitchen and stairs.

Kitchen.  When we went to pick the tiles, we also kind match up with kitchen cabinetry colour but this was from the brand Polytec.  The cabinery we suppose is Laminex.  Between the two brands, the colours are different!  The one we had in our mind can not be matched with similar colour in Laminex range.  This threw me out completely.  Add to the complication, we only had stonetop waterfall on one side of the island bench.  Judi suggested to use two different colours for the base cabinet, one nice one for face and a white one for the other two sides.  I have never seen a display house have two different colour in its base cabinets under the island bench.  We had lots of discussions, at the end, for simplicity we decide to add in a waterfall of stone on the other side to solve this issue which will cost us over a thousand dollars.

The second thing threw me out was the caesarstone range included in the price.  We thought the Deluxe range was no extra but turns out, it does.  So the stone we had in mind (Nougat which goes well with the Polytec cabinetry) was not considered since we are not sure how much extra it would cost. The choice was limited to the Standard range only.

The third thing that caused long discussion is which colour should be on the top of the bench where the cook top is.  We had in our mind that dark at bottom and white on the top.  But Judi suggested the dark on the top and white on the bottom of the cooktop bench for two reasons: 1. The white one is easier to clean, no indentation in the material.  2. The dark one on the top to match the island bench face.  We took her advice.

The wall oven tower will be the dark colour one.

Pantry: Judi suggest to carry the kitchen into the Pantry and also have dark base cabinet and white overheads.

Bottom up:
Internal floor tile;
Base and overhead cabinet: Laminex Impression range: "blackened elm riven finish".  When you touch it, you can feel the indentation of the material and it is quite nice.
Stone top: Ocean foam.
Base and overhead cabinet: White silk finish

Downstairs Bathroom.  Same floor tiles are main living.  Keep the same stone bench top with a slight different cabinet colour: Jericho Nuance Finish.

Laundry: Laundry has laminex benchtop not stone top.  Chose "Pure Mineralstone in nature finish" for bench top which is very similar to our stone top.  Same cabinet: Jericho Nuance Finish as the bathroom next door and same main floor tiles carried through into laundry.

Ensuite.  Vero Pietra floor tile, Piatra Grey (Super nature range) bench top and Rural Oak cabinet to match the Spotted Gun timber floor.

Stairs.  Victory ash timber stairs.  Upstairs is engineered timber floor Spotted Gum.  It is very hard to match the Victory Ash to Spotted Gum upstairs.  This is the one strip Spotted Gum for our upstairs floor.

The decision is between two stains: Clear or Cochranes Black.  We went with Clear.
